Area Coordinators

Area Coordinators Needed!

The GERL Area Coordinator program provides our first line of support for assisting with abused and neglected horses in Georgia's counties. Area Coordinators perform a number of very important roles for the GERL such as serving as a public contact for GERL, assisting GERL in inspecting potential foster and/or adoptive homes and assisting GERL with public education in their respective areas. To see a complete list of the AC duties click on the "Area Coordinator Duties" link at the bottom of this page.

We are in the process of implementing a new plan that will align us regionally with the Georgia Department of Agriculture's inspectors. This map divides the state up into 13 regions that will make it easier to manage all of the things that we want to do in the coming years. We also have a project plan that outlines the details of this regional structure and lists some of the GERL goals that are specific to our Area Coordinators. Castration clinics and hay banks are just a sample of the things that we want to implement in the future.

As we move forward, it is our goal to find an AC Lead and an Education Lead for each region. These leads should be people who have good organizational and people skills as they will be responsible for coordination of all of the ACs in their region and will report to the AC and Education Directors.

This new plan also redefines the duties of our Area Coordinators. There are a lot more duties for our ACs now, which means that one per county is not enough. We do not want to overburden anyone, therefore, having more than one AC per county is the goal. We need AC volunteers at just about any commitment level.

We are very excited about the future of GERL and hope that you will join us in our renewed commitment to fight even harder to end equine abuse and neglect in Georgia.
